Cesky Krumlov

We had our first European adventure as a family of 5 last weekend. Our plan was to visit Cesky Krumlov and Prague, both in the Czech Republic. Vienna was a good halfway point, so we spent Friday night there before heading to Cesky on Saturday morning.  The drive from Vienna took us on all back roads through Austria and into the Czech Republic. Though we thought perhaps the GPS was leading us astray as we went through one village after another, we loved the drive and the scenery along the way. At one point, I looked up and spotted a maypole!
In addition to several maypole sightings, we also saw a woman doing yard work in her bra and later had to stop for a man on a ladder in the middle of the road.

After about 3 hours, we arrived in Cesky Krumlov. It is home to the second largest castle in the Czech Republic, and has been named one of the top most picturesque villages in the world. We climbed up to the castle to take in the view.

We wandered the streets, ate lunch, and made the obligatory ice cream stop. Their prevalent ice cream was turos flavored soft serve...interesting, but not bad!
It was a lovely town and it was easily seen in a few hours.
We left mid-afternoon and headed another 3 hours to Prague.
We settled into our hotel that night, happy to have had a successful first adventure as a family of 5!
